The Joys of livin' in the North West

My plates expired on Betty #1 this past weekend.  I am toying with renewing them for one more month so I don't leave my wife and 17 month old stranded without a car all winter.  Havin' ridden through snow in Sask in my youth, you'd think I'd be tough enough to handle the rainy season in BC.  But the shop does need a truck, so maybe I'll just get a beater.  Anyways, things are moving slowly on this project as home renovations and a new business are taking up all of my time.  Hopefully this winter, we can finally get the steel braided brake line installed, get new rims mounted and start working on the solo seat.  Stay tuned....

Lords of Gastown may sound like a killer name for a motorcycle club, but it is actual the brand of a local clothing line here in Vancouver.  Check out their online store for some biker inspired duds.

iPhone Speedo

For awhile now I have been toying with mounting a digital speedo on our Betty #2 project.  Although I am not crazy about mounting my iPhone to my bike, the team at Instrument has done just that with their digital craft cb750.

LSL rear sets for our Betty #1 project.  The only kicker is that it eliminates the DUBs flawless kick-starter.

Bell Custom 500

If you don't have the coin to get a Ateliers Ruby, scratch that, if your just in the market for a cool new helmet the Bell Custom 500 should be on your short list.  Whether you want something plain or flashy, Bell has a cool lid to fit the bill.

Ugly Motor Bikes

Based out of San Diego Ugly Motor Bikes is a custom shop and despite what their name may suggest they produce some sweet looking machines.  This Honda CB650 is one of their creations and from the solo seat to the heat wrapped exhaust it is anything but ugly.

Mabel

"Mabel" as this bike is effectually know started life as a rusted out 1978 Honda CB750.  The guys at Dime City Cycles, crazy as it may sound, actually gave this bike away, believe it or not, after she was brought back to life.

Betty #2

This is the second bike to roll into the Zephyr garage.  A 1983 Suzuki GS1150ef.  We picked up two of these gems for the price of one and are planning on a restoration and customization. Follow the build on our Betty #2 page.

Jerolamo

This beautiful Triumph triple is the handy work of Mr. Martini in Italy.  Showing why the Italians are so well known for their style, Mr. Martini has taken this unlikely Triumph, cut away all the unnecessary garnish and added just the right touches to make a truly modern café racer.

The Thorn

The Thorn is a gorgeous bike from the guys at Twinline Motorcycles just south of the border in Seattle, Washington.  The bike is powered by a Kawasaki EX500 motor bored out to 600cc and cradled in a modified Honda CB550 frame.  Check out their website for full details on the bike and the build.

Ducati 900ss

A lovely Ducati 900ss from Union Motorcycle Classics. Modern performance with café looks. Union's design is almost nicer then Ducati's own Sport Classic 1000s.  Check out there website for more bikes and café fairings.

Honda Cafe

My cousin sent me this nice little Honda.  The blacked out rims and Vintage look Firestone tires really add to the clean lines of this bike.

Monkee #1

I have always loved Kawi's GPZ and this beast, the first bike to come to us from the boys @ WrenchMonkees, is an excellent example.  Raw and brutal, Monkee #1 was just a small glimpse into what we have come to expect from the mad motorcycle masters from Copenhagen.

Cafe Racer #1

The internet is a fantastic place to find inspiration for bike designs.  This little Yamaha has the quintessential lines you'd expect in a stripped down café racer.  The Ohlins rear suspension sure doesn't hurt either.

Betty #1

This is the first motorcycle to roll into the Zephyr garage.  She started life as a bone stock 2001 Kawasaki W650.  Follow the build on our Betty #1 page.

Origins

Motorcycles have been in my blood for as long as I can remember.  My dad got me hooked as a kid.  Ever since I was five and I first burnt my calves on the exhaust of his Suzuki GS850, I have had a passion for everything two wheeled.  Zephyr is the product of that passion.  Through Zephyr, I am striving to build bikes that harken back to my youth.  By taking old muscle and melding it with modern technology, Zephyr aims to produce air cooled fire breathing dragons.

Stay tuned...
